There is no sign-up. We don't collect your name, phone number, email or any other identity information.

Location, weather and news

To show local weather and news, your browser asks ipinfo.io (or ipapi.co as a fallback) which city your IP address is in; these services see your IP address. The city and approximate coordinates are stored only in your browser (refreshed every 6 hours), as is any city you pick manually.

Weather is requested by your browser directly from Open-Meteo using approximate coordinates. Our server receives the city name and approximate coordinates to look up the city's Chinese name and local news (the server queries Google News with the city name only). The server does not store this information.

Cookies and local storage

• tz: your time zone, used to work out which day is "today".
• hrl_rem: date reminders you set. Used only to show reminders in your browser; our server does not read or store them.
• hrl_mood: which mood you picked today in "Share your mood today" (just the date and the mood), so you are not counted twice and your choice is shown; expires after two days.
• Browser local storage: temperature unit (°C / °F), the city you chose, and the IP location result.
• _ga, _ga_*: used by Google Analytics to tell visitors and visits apart; see "Third parties" below.

Clearing this site's cookies and site data in your browser removes all of the above (except analytics data already sent to Google Analytics).

Server logs

Like most websites, the hosting server may log the IP address, time and page requested, used only for security and troubleshooting.

Third parties

We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, such as which pages are viewed, approximate (city-level) location, and device and browser type. It sets the cookies listed above, and Google processes the data under its privacy policy. To opt out, use your browser's privacy or tracking-protection settings, or install Google's Analytics opt-out add-on.

We use no ads or social plugins. ipinfo.io, ipapi.co and Open-Meteo handle requests under their own privacy policies. News links lead to the publishers' sites, which have their own policies. We will update this page before anything changes.
